Port Stephens Area
I wanted to let you know how everything went on the high school scripture/youth of Port Stephens evening Wed 7th Feb 2007.
The atmosphere was very warm and friendly as 70 approx like minded people connected about the youth in our area. One of the goals was that people would connect and keep in touch, so we did eat, meet & greet for 30min before and most people choose to stay afterwards as well.
It was great to be able to share the news of Lachlan Donaldson's (youth pastor from the Salt Ash church of Christ) appointment to the position SRE teacher for Buladelah High and congratulate him in this. It was great to see the youth leaders connecting with their new SRE High School teachers.
We began by hearing from, Ron V past Tomaree High SRE teacher tell us what teaching SRE is like. Alan Ward Minister Salamanda Christian Outreach Centre, made some farwell comments for Ron VanVuuren. Our 3 new SRE teachers for Tomaree, Hunter River and Irrawang High Schools, briefly told us about themselves.
James Campbell Port Stephens Council youth leader for the Tilligerry gave a great report about the youth work and the snack & wrap programme (with Terrace care Terrace Christian Life Centre) which goes to where the kids are and talking with them.
It was also great to hear about Destiny Grove Womens Refuge opening 19th Feb sponsored by Terrace Christian Life Centre.
Libby Dingle gave a great talk on Plan -it Youth mentoring and it was well received, with lots of people wanted the information handout.
we heard the reports of their work everyones work and goals and plans for helping young people was great.
Our local church youth leaders gave brief a summary of their youth work and it was good to hear common themes coming through them all.
Some comments about the night "it was very informative, well presented, and a great roll up", "some wanted to solve problems of youth, some had the vision for the high school scripture, and even with different agendas we were all on the same page", "it was great to see what was going on in other youth work", "it was a nice and informal night".
Sally Dover and Geoff Dingle our local council members were very impressed.
The Principals of 2 high schools came along with their, school SRE coordinators.
Thanks for your support for this evening.
Special thanks to the generous support from Port Stephens Church of Christ Salt Ash.
Please reply with your comments and offer your ideas about making this an annual event which seeks to bring together our Council, community, leaders of local churches, youth leadership, etc. to support and pray for the youth in our area
-
Which would be better a breakfast on a Sat morning, or an evening the last week in Jan before all programmes wind up?
Do you support this idea?
-
What are your other suggestions?
-
Would you like to be part of the organisation of an annual event? (many hands make light work)
Please pass on this information to others.
